Teaching Activities and Accomplishments 

  • Developed an innovative graduate sequence on noise & vibration control in partnership with GM (1995- )
  • Introduced new courses in acoustics, machine dynamics, and digital signal processing
  • Developed a comprehensive and unique undergraduate honors program in mechanical engineering

Research Interests and Activities

  • Acoustics, machine dynamics, vibrations, non-linear dynamics, and signal processing
  • Directed over 18 million dollars of sponsored research and grant programs, over the past 2 decades
  • Sponsors: US Army, NASA, NSF, Chrysler, GM, Ford, Goodyear, Nissan, Honda, Hyundai, IBM, etc.
  • Director, NSF I/UCRC Center on “Smart Vehicle Concepts” (2007-2017); budget over $11M+ for 10 years
  • Directed the Ohio Board of Regents Grant on Acoustics & Vibration Instrumentation ($1.85m, 1996-2002)
  • Co-Directed the DOD - URI project on Rotorcraft Transmission Dynamics ($1.88m, 1992-99)
